Class R have been developing their understanding of celebrations and religious festivals and this half term we have been looking at Easter and the events that link to Easter, beginning with Pancake day.
We have read about pancake day and how the 40 days before easter are marked by this. We have used the fatty foods people used to use up before Lent and made our own pancakes, looking at how the mixture changed as we followed the recipe. To develop our understanding of Pancake day and Easter our Celebration Area has been used as a pancake kitchen, roleplaying the pancake making we have done, writing recipes and talking about Easter. We are excited to develop this area over the half term leading up to Easter as we learn new things.
Jack and the beanstalk has been our story of the half term and the children have been busy exploring the story and innovating it themselves to re tell. We have planted our own Beans and are busy watching them grow, following our experiement to find out if we needed to water them or not.
