Dear Parents,
We can barely believe that the end of the school year is just 2 weeks away! As the diary is filled with lots of activities and events, we would like to take the opportunity to set out a few things to help keep us all on track!
SEN Reviews – Monday 10th July (Classes R – 3) and Tuesday 11th July (Classes 4 – 6)Booking appointments for the SEN Reviews have now closed, and we would like to remind parents that have made appointments to please keep to their selected times. If you would like a reminder of what you have booked, please ask the school office who will be able to help you. Mrs Halkon will be in touch directly with any families stating they were not available for those times.
School Reports – Wednesday 12th July
School reports will be sent out on Wednesday 12th July.
With regard to Class 6 reports, because the majority of the Class being out for transition days at high school, we will send these out on Tuesday 11th July. We will aim to include the SATS results for Year 6 in their reports, but as we receive the results in the afternoon of Tuesday 11th, if not possible we will have them available for collection from Wednesday afternoon.
Class 5 – Led Bike Ride – Thursday 13th July
Class 5 pupils should have received an invitation to take part in a led bike ride as a follow up to the Bikeability training they did this year. Please could Class 5 parents return the consent form, and remember bikes, helmets and suitable clothing on Thursday 13th!
Exhibition Evening – Thursday 13th July 2:30pm – 6:30pm
We really enjoy inviting families into school to look at and celebrate the work the children have done this year. This year, the Exhibition Evening will be held on Thursday 13th July between 2:30 and 6:30pm. Come to the main office and you will be directed round to your child’s classroom where you can look at your child’s work and speak with the class teacher. This is an open event, and appointments do not need to be made. Year 6 families have the option of looking at their work at this event or following the leavers assembly on Thursday 20th at 9.30am.
Art Exhibition – Thursday 13th July during Exhibition Evening
The pieces of art created by the children look incredible and we can’t wait for you to see them!
The art will be available for you to view and buy at the Exhibition Evening, and will be priced at £5 each (cash payable on the evening), however we will offer discounts for families with siblings:-
1 = £5.00
2 = £4.00 each
3+ = £3.00 each
The art exhibition will take place in the school hall.
For Year 6 pupils, these pieces will also be available for viewing and/or purchase following the Leavers’ Assembly.
Preloved Uniform Sale
One of our parents, Hannah Cowling, has kindly offered to run a preloved uniform sale on the Exhibition Evening. Various items and sizes of preloved school uniform will be available to purchase for an unspecified donation. It’s a wonderful opportunity to stock up with some items for next years’ uniform, and help us with our Green Challenge in sustainability! If the sale is a success, we can look at holding more of these throughout the school year.
Class 6 Leavers’ Assembly – Thursday 20th July 9:30am
This will take place on Thursday 20th July at 9:30am in the hall as we say a sad (but proud!) goodbye to our Year 6 children as they start their new adventures at secondary school.
Class 6 End of Year Visit – Friday 21st July
This year, our Class 6s will be going to Mission Out in Tingley. Full details to follow!
End of Term
School will close for summer on Friday 21st July at 3:15pm
ACADEMIC YEAR 2023 – 2024
Class Teachers for 2023 – 2024
Next academic year, the class teachers will be as follows:-
· Reception – Mrs Heslop and Mrs Halkon
· Class 1 – Miss Yewman and Mrs Bucknall
· Class 2 – Miss Machado
· Class 3 – Miss Farthing (formerly known as Mrs Bainton)
· Class 4 – Mrs White
· Class 5 – Ms Siddle
· Class 6 – Mr Stockdale
You may see a name missing from those listed above. Class 1’s Mrs Moss is sadly leaving us, and is heading to a new role in Hull. We will miss her very much, wish her lots of luck and would like to thank her for being a wonderful addition to the teaching team at Hook.
Children will be meeting their new class teachers on Monday 17th July and finding out a little about what the new school year brings for them.
Footwear
We are making strides forward in the OPAL initiative, and part of this is the children having access to the school field all year round, whatever the weather.
For the school year 2023/2024, children will NO LONGER require indoor pumps, but instead will wear their school shoes all day. We will, however, require them to be provided with:-
· a pair of wellington boots to keep at school for rainy days, and
· basic sports footwear/trainers for PE.
A reminder of our school uniform requirements can be found here: http://www.hookprimary.co.uk/key-information/school-uniform/
School Dinners – Price Change
From September, there will be a slight increase in the price of school lunches to £2.60 per meal for children in Key Stage 2 (Classes 3-6). This is in line with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s recommendations. School meals are payable in advance via Parentpay.com.
Data Check
Classes R-5 will have received an email with an online Data Check form. We appreciate these things can be burdensome to complete, but it is extremely important we have accurate and up-to-date information on our systems for your child and sometimes with the best will in the world, parents forget to update us of any changes. Please could you complete and return this form by Friday 14th July. Any forms not competed by this date will be chased up.
The form requires details of legal parents and an additional two emergency contacts, so please remember to inform those people who you give as an emergency contact for your child that you have done so.
Attendance
Please also note we now hold regular attendance reviews with the Local Authority. Any unauthorised absences of 10 or more sessions within any 13 week period may be subject to a Penalty Notice and fine from East Riding Council. This currently stands at £60 per parent. Full details of absence from school can be found on our website here:-
If you have any queries about the above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
You may see codes entered in our registers. The most common ones are:-
H = Authorised Holiday where procedures are followed and the form is submitted
G = Unauthorised Holiday where procedures are followed and the form is submitted
O = Absent from registration with no reason given/Unauthorised holiday where no form is submitted
I = Illness
L = Late for registration (minutes recorded)
Term Dates
School will reopen on Tuesday 5th September. We have attached a copy of the term calendar for next year.
And Finally…!
All that is left to say is that we hope all our families have a wonderful break over the summer, and we can’t wait to hear about all the things the children have done over their holidays.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs C M Ainley
Headteacher
